Call 313.494.4300 for job training

Focus: HOPE continues to recruit students for a new round of job training courses in Advanced Manufacturing and Information Technology.

Prospective students can contact the Admissions office at 313-494-4300 to learn about job training opportunities, or stop in the office at 1200 Oakman Boulevard.  They also will learn about a new work readiness program called Ready, Set, Go! that provides assistance in math, reading, computer and communication skills, and study skills.

The Information Technology program prepares students for careers as computer technicians, help desk technicians, customer service representatives, network technicians or network administrators. The Information Technologies Center at Focus: HOPE is a Cisco Network Academy, a Microsoft IT Academy, and a CompTIA Authorized Partner Program which assures that the curriculum aligns with high industry standards. Students will take industry certification exams to become certified in several areas.

The Advanced Manufacturing program trains students to become machine operators and CNC machinists. The program is noted for its hands-on approach to training, which makes learning more effective and meaningful. Students also will earn technical training certifications and an OSHA safety certification.

Prospective students must have a high school diploma or GED to enroll in Focus: HOPE’s job training programs. Those who need a GED will be referred to The Education Experience GED tutoring program offered in partnership with St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center.

Incoming students also take an assessment test and must pass a drug screen and physical. Based on their test scores, they will enroll in either an eight-week or a three-week Ready, Set, Go! program prior to starting job training.

Once students complete the “Ready, Set, Go” program, they will be better positioned to take advanced job training. They also will have the skills to become a better student and professional, with experience in time management, studying and test taking and communications skills. Topics such as social etiquette, work ethics, conflict resolution, teamwork and more will also be discussed, setting up students for long-term success.

Finally, “Ready, Set, Go” will help students develop more sustained financial literacy skills, such as managing a paycheck, banking, avoiding debt, loan practices and more.

Focus: HOPE graduates broke the race and gender barriers in the machinist trades. Since 1981, 12,000 talented men and women graduated from education and job training programs to establish careers – primarily in southeast Michigan. As the business world continues to evolve, Focus: HOPE’s educational strategies are evolving with it - allowing students to adapt to current industry trends and required skills.

Child care is available at Focus: HOPE’s Center for Children for students who need it during their classes. The Admissions office is located in the Machinist Training Institute, 1200 Oakman Boulevard, Detroit.
