Volunteers Are Needed!
We have hundreds of homebound seniors who rely on volunteers to get food to their doors, but often do not have enough volunteer drivers. We need your help so all of our seniors can receive their food.
To make deliveries, volunteers use their own vehicles to carry food from Focus: HOPE to the homes of senior participants. You can choose the areas to deliver to (and choose places close to home!) and the number of boxes. Once a volunteer has received an orientation, they may come at any time during open hours (including some Saturday mornings!) and deliver as much or little food as they’d like. Both individual homes and buildings with up to 100 participants have a high need.
You can help in a number of ways.
First, word of mouth goes a long way. Please tell anyone with time to spare that they can help a senior receive their food. Students may need service hours for college applications, friends may be looking for a fulfilling way to spend their off days, and seniors may be looking to help their peers. Leverage your connections with sports teams, fraternities and clubs. Give out the volunteer email ([email protected]) and direct people to the How To Help tab on our website.
Second, we strongly encourage you to make deliveries yourself! Volunteering is a wonderful way to meet the people impacted by Focus: HOPE’s work. Our seniors are extremely appreciative of our volunteers and would love to meet you! Both colleagues and volunteers are also welcome to adopt-a-senior, which entails bringing food to the same senior recipient every month, so that you can build a relationship with that person. Adopting is an incredibly rewarding experience. Your adopted senior may even begin to feel like a part of the family!
