June in Review

June was an exciting month for us! This past month we hosted our fifth annual Sneakers & Speakers event on June 20th that featured panelists Ederique “ Chef E” Goudia, Kiki Louya, Phil Jones, Frank Kubik and Moderator Winona Bynum. The event commemorated Juneteenth and highlighted the issue of food insecurity and achieving food justice within the city of Detroit. Attendees were able to participate in a silent auction, networking, and food tasting opportunities from local businesses including Louisiana Creole Gumbo, Alpino Detroit, Freda’s Soup Kitchen and more!

Along with Sneakers & Speakers, during the month of June our Early Learning program hosted several impactful community events, including a Fatherhood Conference for men’s mental health, Fatherhood Community Baby Shower for fathers to be and fathers with young children, and Focus: HOPE Day to celebrate the end of the 2023-2024 school year. We couldn’t be more excited about all the things taking place at Focus: HOPE and look forward to what the rest of the year will bring!
